The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transports.

Mariefred Prison is located in Strängnäs municipality, about 2 km outside of Mariefred. There is no public transport to the prison, but if you rely on public transport, the nearest bus station is about 2 km away, which is approximately a 30-minute walk. If you commute by train, you can bring your bicycle and use the bike path to reach the prison. If you drive, there is a staff parking area adjacent to the prison.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Secure a summer substitute position at Mariefred Prison now.
Do you want to contribute to a safer society? As a correctional officer in a prison, you are the foundation of the security work. You work in a team with other professionals to maintain a safe and secure operation and to motivate clients towards a life without crime. The daily work includes locking and unlocking residential rooms, searching premises, and supervision, as well as contact with clients and preparations for release, among other tasks. The role of a correctional officer involves a structured and routine-based approach with a focus on risk assessment and security awareness.
Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the fundamental values of the correctional service regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop. You will be part of a safe and engaged work community where cooperation, responsibility, and respect are central values.
QUALIFICATIONS
We take great consideration of your personal suitability. You are secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. You enjoy working with others and communicate clearly. You share our belief that people can develop and change. Furthermore, you should have good physical fitness and be able to act physically when required.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
- Completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant.
- The ability to express yourself well in spoken and written Swedish.
It is an advantage if you:
- Have work experience in corrections, security work, service work, psychiatry, or care and welfare work. Knowledge in relevant fields such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
- Have a B driver's license.
- Speak additional languages.
